The reason we picked the langollen canal was because of the amazing Aqueducts and Tunnels. They all lived up to their reputation.

This is us going across the Chirk Aqueduct which runs alongside the Viaduct for the train. Apparently the Viaduct was built higher to show that train transport was superior to boat transport.
Then there were the tunnels.

This is Jo talking to the geese when they had us under siege.

There are two Aqueducts, The Pontcysylite and The Chirk Aqueduct. This is us driving along the Pontcysylite Aqueduct.(we have no idea how to pronounce it !) It was a little scarey as on one side there was a metal lip of a couple of cms and then a huge drop.

Then there were the tunnels. We only had four locks to go through which were very easy as there were plenty of people to help.

Hey, the inside looks terrific! I can tell you are all having a very hard time... Love the geese photo - they do look like they have something very important to say!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the next post.
The interior of the canal boat looks very nice and very comfortable. Do you have a wheel to steer with or are you just moving the rudder? Who was steering in the second photo, you or Jo? Thank-you for the photos. They give us a really good idea of what the canal was like. Have you seen Buckingham Palace yet?

The geese were saying 'Give me Food or else' we didn't so they started eating the ropes we were tied up with ! Chris threw a bucket of water at them and then they went to another boat hissing and pecking at all the windows.
ReplyDeleteWe just had a tiller not a wheel to steer with. I was steering in the photo.
We havn't seen B. Palace yet probably when we return from Italy. Off to visit Camberley today , where i used to live and visit my second cousin.
